Mark has donated a brand new Fender Mark Knopfler Signature Stratocaster to AMREF, Africa's leading health organisation, with over 50 years experience of saving and transforming lives in urban slums and remote rural communities across Africa. The guitar is being auctioned on ebay to raise money for AMREFf's Katine Project. This is a unique partnership launched last year with The Guardian and Barclays to transform the lives of 25,000 people who live in the poor and remote sub-county of Katine, in north-east Uganda. Each year at this time, Mark lends his support the GOSH Starcards Xmas auction. GOSH raises funds on behalf of London's Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital. This year's auction starts at 8 pm (GMT) on the 24th of November and closes at the same time on the 4th of December. So, if you would like to own a beautiful 610 cm x 435 cm wall display which features a Jack of Clubs playing card personally signed by Mark together with a high quality 10x8 inch colour photograph, an original ticket and pass for the KTGC concert which took place at the Brighton Centre in the UK on the 24th of May plus a lovely Starcards presentation plaque all mounted in a silver effect frame then get ready to bid generously ! Mark has donated a signed guitar to Rock For Kids, a Chicago charity that raises money to provide music education to children who wouldn't be able to afford it otherwise. This week, MTV returned to its musical roots, launching the new website, MTVMusic.com. The site hosts music videos dating back to the early days of the network. With its signature refrain, ‘I want my MTV’, Dire Straits' Money for Nothing was the site’s most viewed video during its first few days, outpacing other classic videos like Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ and chart toppers such as the new Brittney Spears’ cut, ‘Womanizer’.
