    Hello from Colombia!!

I just joined this site a few minutes ago and it's great to be a part of Mark's community of lovers of his music...Although I am from Colombia, i've travelled extensively in Europe, US, and some countries in Asia..The first time I heard Dire Straits was in 1981 in Portugal..I Was amazed by this spectacular music, and have been a huge fan since then..As I write this lines, I'm listening to "once a upon a time in the west", a truly masterpiece of rock and roll...Thanks Mark for all the beautiful music..He is the greatest rock musician of all times, in my opinion..All his songs, and I mean all, are great, and I mean Great...If somebody wants to answer which is the best "once a upon a time in the west" version, I will apprecite it..Yes

Got that right! If I were you, I'd also buy the aLCHEMY cd if you really like the song (it is a rather expensive CD, I honestly must say that I love the On The Night live CD better, but it's different... Plus there are other songs on the aLCHEMY cd which are indeed better than any other versions I've heard)

"The birds up on the wires and the telegraph poles
They can always fly away from this rain and this cold
You can hear them singing out their telegraph code
All the way down the telegraph road"

"My darling boy, all of my sunshine and all of my joy"

    Re: Hello from Colombia!!

Thanks Denmark...There is a version on youtube that is 10 minutes long and I think is excellent..It's live, but in general I like the studio versions better.."Oh Yeah once a upon a time in the west", yeah, yeah,..I can't stop listening to this song..He talks with his guitar, and for me this is one of the best songs ever written..For a song to be that long it has to be good or otherwise you get tired of it......Talk to you later...Yes

Hello MKBelgium: Thanks for your information..It's great that some of you guys, that know the history of Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler, tell us all the details..I've heard that Mark and his brother David are not in good terms, and they hardly talk to each other..Is this true? and if it is, Why?..."No fears alone at night she's sailing through the crowd", "In her ears the phones are tight and the music's playing loud".....Talk to you later...Yes
