I understand that Mark is English and uses words from his every day life in his music but could someone please tell me what the following are:

A scaffolder

What is a skinny and a fizz? I am assuming that a fizz is a drink

How much is ten bob?

 Finally, someone who put's out music that makes you think and go what is that?

 

 

A scaffolder is a construction worker; one who builds scaffolds--platforms for bricklaying, painting, etc. 

 I had a feeling that a scaffolder was a person that set up staging.

Hi,

Ten Bob is the equivalent to 50pence UK sterling,we used to refer to a 10 shilling note as ten bob pre decimalisation.

 The Fizzy and the Still ,fizzy refers to sparkling wine or champaigne,still is red or white wine non sparkling.

Yes. Mark was born in Glasgow,but  when he was seven or eight years old the Knopfler family moved to Newcastle upon Tyne. I'm nearly sure that Mark's mother Louisa was from Newcastle. Mark's father  Erwin was from Hungary and he died in the early Nineties. I don't know about Louisa, maybe she is still alive ?. Nearly everybody knows that Mark has a brother called David. Mark and David has also a sister called Ruth, and she is the oldest of them.

Mark's mum is still alive, in her 80's i think, and also she shares the same birthday as me, 19th October, because that was the same day Mark had the Variety club lunch tribute, and i was there too.

It was a great day, and made more special because it was my birthday, it was weird having lunch with so many famous faces, and there was a good mix of young and old, just goes to show Mark's appeal among his fans.
