Re: Denver, CO June 24, 2008 Concert
I was in row 2, in front of the speaker bank last night - I saw MK in '05 at Red Rocks also and there was just something special about this concert. I agree that Sultans was the best I've ever heard and the versions of Marbletown and Hill Farmer's Blues were memorable. I'm MK's age and have been a fan since Dire Straits beginning and recommended this concert to a young friend and got a call this AM and could hardly get off the phone with him, he was so enthusiastic! I will be sorely disappointed if there is not a CD/DVD of one of the gigs on this tour - sad that it wasn't last night.

Thanks for the pix, Jeff! I was in Row 27 and my pictures are fuzzier. What a great show -- to be in the presence of a world master - Telegraph Road is truly a guitar symphony -- my first but not my last MK. Till the next time he's in town, Steve Meyer

ColoradoMKfan: I want to say it was... I'll look it up exactly. EDIT: It was through passalong.com - pretty sure it was a soundboard recording. I hope they did a similar deal for this tour... haven't seen anything on it yet.
It wasn't until after the tour was over that passalong got the shows. I imagine he will do it again as its an easy money maker. I love the idea of having the music to the show. Just don't put a label on the disk and lend it to a friend with an Infinity. Tolerances much too tight.

Just a side note about the John visa thing, they say it was for a thing that happend way back when. Now you would have thought the peoplo organising the tour would have asked all the tour personel if they had ever had problems with visa's in the past, or had ever been in trouble before, and they have had months to sort this out!!so i am supprised at such a bad error from such a professional set up!!
Nothing in the world prepared me for your heart, your golden heart.

Yes, you are right, it was through passalong, and I think it's still available. But Guy has said many times on his site now that it will not be repeated, not for this tour, anyway. MK is not interested, because he doesn't think the sound quality is good enough. MK is aware of other solutions, but is still not interested. And he has enough money, so he doesn't care if it's a moneymaker. And last time there were huge problems for people living outside the USA and Mac users all over the world to download the shows - therefore no success story. From reading Guy's comments, both the actual words and between the lines, a live CD seems to be the most likely solution. They are taping all the shows, and two days ago Guy said that a live CD is beeing discussed. John's visa problem made them put the project on the back burner for a while, but Guy says today that the problem seems to be close to a solution. Surely they want to capture the magic of John's fiddling and strumming/picking on such a project. And the sound of a CD will meet MK's high standards regarding sound quality. A live DVD is expencive to make, so then they have to have a go from the record company first. And record comanies aren't exactly known for taking risks, are they?

Re: Denver, CO June 24, 2008 Concert
Simply put......Mark and the Men were ON FIRE!!! I've been following the posts from the European tour for the last three months, and was expecting a mellower concert. That wouldn't have been bad for me either, but rest assured, this was no sitdown performance. The set list was as perfect for me as possible, the Band was outstanding, the crowd energetic.......it was magnificent. (Except for that opening act, Jessica. Sorry girl, but a whining emo grrl is not what us MK fans desired) Sad about John M., but maybe we'll have over here before too long (specifically for the Seattle show, my next one.) Oddly enough, though I'm no fan of bands feeling the need to play their past super-hits, I was quite curious and in anticipation of Sultans of Swing. Several posts from the the earlier shows had implied that Mark shouldn't play Sultans if he's not upto the pyrotechnics of the past. I'm not sure I agree with that theory, because that inherently conflicts with the idea of touring/live shows/individual performances. Great musicians reinvent new versions of their songs all the time; that's why we go to shows, isn't it? :) So anyway, as I recognize the intro into SOS, I start wondering about how this song will develop. After the lyrics, as the "lick" section approaches, I wonder "how's Mark feeling tonight?" Well, maybe the naysayers were right; Mark played several minutes of wonderful alternatives. Alternative rythms, alternative chords, alternative progressions; wonderful and jazzy, but not anything like the "lick". Then subtly and slowly the speed increased......the jazz beat slowly morphed into 4/4 time........then suddenly it was like a racecar being downshifted and the pedal floored and Mark was ON FIRE!! Simply phenomenal is the best I can say. As many more posts will repeat I'm sure, this SOS was incredible, and I feel truly sorry for the fans of earlier shows that have seen the band "sleepwalk" through this song. I also hope the future shows on this tour are of similar nature, though it's going to be hard to repeat that performance. We'll see; my wife seems in Vegas and we both see him in Seattle. Anyway, for those of you reading these reviews in anticipation of your upcoming shows, I for one believe you will be in.......Shangi-La. Aloha everyone :)
All I can do is kiss you through the bars of a rhyme.....

damn! a live CD would be fantastic, but any way to get the recording from particular gigs? Haha maybe a nice letter to Guy ;)
