I agree and it saddens me, I don't think it would work. Overall it doesn't seem that quality is appreciated anymore. Many young people I know (I have a 19 year old son) don't even like guitars. They think that rap and hip hop is the real deal. Sad state of affairs. I just have to hope in due time they will come around.

It is nice to see on You Tube that some young people, seems to be Europeans more so than Americans, do appreciate quality music. Here is what one 16 year old from Italy posted regarding Mark:

 "Mark Knopfler might not be as fast as, don't know, Timo Tolkki, or Kai Hansen, or others metal guitarists, but the cleannes of Mark's sound, his fingerpicking, and the indescribable feel of his song, make Mark just UNIQUE, and surely one of the best guitar players of our time.

So, yeah, long live heavy metal...but BOW in front of the SUPERIORITY of this man!"
 

I am hoping to get really good seats for Mark's concert in Los Angeles (assuming he's going to play LA), and I am going to take my son with me (I think?!). I just hope he goes with an open mind.

I am also glad that the Greek Theatre is a small venue, capacity of about 6000, I think. It would be heartbreaking to look around and see empty seats. But who knows, maybe many/most venues will sell out.

Bottom line, whatever musical journey Mark wants to take us on is fine with me.

We all love Dire Straits, else you wouldnt visit this site.

So do i, i terribly love them. They play music with so much emotion and passion, you could win a war with it.

We could say and wish what we want, but the truth is hard.

The dire straits we used to know will not be the same again i guess.

My sad opinion is that Mark is getting too old with his finger-quickness, so i guess when dire straits shall revive, it will be only temporarily.
 

You are right about the possibilities of a DS reunion...if it happens it would be a limited tour...if not just a couple of major market shows. Bring in the camera crew and put it out "strait" to DVD.

As far as Mark's finger picking is concerned...all you have to do is listen to some cuts from the Shangri-La tour...namely SOS and Telegraph Road...and you will see that his finger speed hasn't slowed down at all.

If there is a Dire Straits reunion in the future, it would probably be few concerts tour, and it would satisfy the most of us. In a way, lots of people want to see them one more time. Possible line up could be: Mark, John, Guy, Alan, Chris, Danny and Phil and why not Richard and Glen playing Mark´s after 1996 songs. It would be great.

Reforming Dire Straits at the time of Sailing to Philadelphia would have been possible both in terms of popularity and energy.

Now I couldn't see the interest of it. Moreover, since his accident in 2003 MK seems not to have fully recovered and tends to get tired faster and more easily. Some say he also suffers from osteoarthitis these days, which could explain his new singer-songwriter approach and musical orientation lately, resorting to solos less and less, and using a pick to boot.

Mark has always sad that, i believe it was at the end of the oes tour in 1993, that this was not be the end of the DS. It was possible that they can play again but than it would be for a charity gig  or something like that.. At that time, 1993, Mark just wanted something else so he started solo. Now i think, perhaps after this tour, he can bring the straits back together. Make a new album and every member of the last tour would be in it so that would be: John, Alan, Chris, Phil and of course Guy and Danny. If they will do a tour it will be not in huge stadions but for example a hal with maximum 25.000 people. 

Lets just wait and see. If Mark wil get the straits back he will do that in the next 5 years.
