    Kill to get crimson

I don´t know if anyone agrees with me, but MK´s last cd is quite what I was expecting. The lyrics are great, but the music, well..... to laidback to my personal taste. I like to call this couch music, I´m sure Mark wrote the album sitting on the couch ona sunday afternoon after watching a motorbike race on tv. The album is too sleepy. Punish the monkey is great but was the only song that really "rocked me". All the others are very nice and simple, telling vivid stories, but in musical terms, I was hoping for much more.

Even the single choice, True love will never fade in Europe and Punish the monkey in the US.

Warner Bros. people aren´t stupid and they want the album to sell, and with a single like the european one, it will never happen. I think they´re trying harder in the States, where MK doesn´t have a huge following, like in Europe.

C´mon Mark, it´s time for you wake up and rock just a little harder.

    Best regards

Iam in agreement, I'm very dissapointed in the album,I love all MK & DS stuff but this is really lame.

The only half decent track is Track 5 the others don't even get a second play.

Sort it out  MK and throw that plectrum away

I really think it is a great album that you have to listen to a couple of times. Some great lyrics and nice tunes.

I agree. I had my moment this p.m. I've listened to KTGC 7 times. This album is exceptional. Different yes, unusual yes, but all the same magnificent. Appreciate the craftsman, the wordsmith, the lyricist and the musician. This man pushes the boundaries and keeps on developing and doesn't stagnate as others do.

Hmmm....I do not think so. I study conservatory and there are a few quite simple songs (mainly TLWNF), but it is nice for abreaction and also needs more listens to really love it. And it is a very listenable music including TLWNF! It is not very rockin´ album, but it doesn´t matter...I really love The Fizzy And The Still for example. And 2008 concerts will be rockin´ surely!!Big Smile

Well in all honesty my humble opinon on the this is the DVD that comes with the album explains alot of how, when and why about the lyrics and to be honest i probably wouldt not have "got" half of them if MK didn`t give the background.

couldt have used some more rif`s on a couple of the songs.

Presale Points For DENMARK SOON please Angel.

    Re: Kill to get crimson

Sure the energy of this album is not to compare with some of the tracks on Sailing to Philadelphia and even on Ragpickers dream. But as some of you has already written, when you put the phones on and just sits back in the sofa and closes your eyes while listening to this album you can't help to just loving it!

It sure needs a couple of listenings and is NOT to serve as background music while peeling potatoes or doing the dishes.

I'm glad that he brings Richard Bennet with him on the tour as well.

    What a nice guitar player!

Couldn't see him on the credited on the back of the album. Didn't he play on the Shangri La album?

Richard's a superb player but is not on KTGC.  Can't wait for his solo album to come out, it's supposed to be finished by now.

     Woode

PS: I find Mark is greatly influenced by Richard - just listen to Richard's melodic solo on Summer of Love and Mark's follow-up on Punish the Monkey.

    Re: Kill to get crimson

And the sad fact is, Richard is a hell of a lot better than Mark at playing the "twangy" sound.

Take Richard's album Themesfrom a Rainy Decade: the guitar just blows away Mark's comparatively rather poor efforts at the Twang on Shangri-La and Kill to Get Crimson.

On the bright side, he is getting better. The Twang is technically better on KTGC than SL.

Mark's strength is definitely these Bm/D bluesy tunes like Baloney Again / Back to Tupelo / Madame Genevas. Three times the same song and three times brilliant.

    Re: Kill to get crimson

Hi fellas,Kill To Get Crimson is relased here last Saturday.(I am in izmir Turkey by the way). The music store phoned me and i ran and got it immediately.Ohh man what an amazing album,i have read some of the reviews here, and i can't understand why this album didn't live up the expectations. Some of you said it doesn't have any rock moments. To be honest i think it will be silly to wait some rock riffs from this man.It was for Dire Straits era,Mark is someone else now,and i admire what he does. The sound of the new album is so clean and it relaxes me when i listen to it.I can't give a spesific song but In The Sky is a well done song for Mark for a long time...I hope he comes to Turkey.Take care, peace and love...

Typical from Mark: he writes the lyrics and it's up to you to find out exactly what it is about: it might be a neglected jazz band, the creator of fast food restaurants or about his childhood in an amusement park. But when you eventually find out it all clicks together and you realize how everything makes sense :)

    Still gotta watch that DVD!
