Official Recording Policy - Updated 15th April 2008

From Paul Crockford Management:

There are increasing numbers of fans filming the show. Everybody should be able to enjoy the concert without interference from others. It is beginning to get too distracting for the band and irritating too many people in the audience.

Please note that starting with immediate effect, cameras/equipment used for recording moving pictures (DVD/video/cine, etc), e.g video/DVD/film cameras, will not be permitted in any part of the venue. Single shot cameras and audio are still okay but please be mindful of your fellow fans.

Standard 35mm film or digital cameras, including SLRs with lenses less than 75mm and compact point-and-shoot models, are allowed provided they do not obstruct the view of other fans. Professional cameras or other equipment, including tripods, are not allowed unless the user has the appropriate working media credential. Personal photography or video may not be used to reproduce the concert for commercial purposes.

Please note that this camera policy is subject to change for any event based on the requests of the venue or promoters. Where an individual venue does not permit any type of recording/photographic equipment (including audio, SLRs, digital compacts, etc) then the policy of that venue will be respected. In cases where the venue says they bow to the policy of the artist, it is recommended that you take a printout of this policy with you on the night of the concert.

I absolutely don't agree with chappalachia or Lepi!
When someone is taking pictures it's not a problem, when filming it's a problem. I think the problem is that one idiot with a tripod ruined it for us all. That tripods are not allowed ...... ok, not a problem at all. They are disturbing, but a little videocamera in your hand?? It's the same as a photocamera and a telephone.

I never had a problem with cameras, I have a problem with people talking during the concert, people shouting during the concert. That's a problem when you try to hear the very nice arrangements that are made for this tour. Sometimes it's very soft like John McCusker on fiddle, but it's so beautiful I cried.

Recording and filming of the shows is mostly done by the hardcore fans, they are polite, are in front after waiting for up to 8 hours in rain and wind. They don't shout, they don't talk they just enjoy. They make the recording or DVD available for free!!!!!!!! After all the work they have done, compiling the DVD takes hundreds of hours when it's a multicam! And we can enjoy the free DVD of the shows we attended, which is very special.

What Lepi said is pure nonsense. I really know no-one of the fans who don't have all the official CD's and DVD's. It doesn't effect the sales at all. It's the opposite, because of these recordings people in other parts of the world where MK doesn't come often (China, Australia, South America, Africa and other countries) keep in touch with MK.
As you know yourself there is not much airplay after the DS-years. Some people in that parts of the world sometimes discoverd in 2001 or 2002 that MK has solo-albums and tours!

I, for myself, buy every single CD or DVD at least 3 times or more. I use it as gifts. I buy everything that is released by the bandmembers (i.e. Guy's Inamorata 3 times, which is absolutely fantastic and Richard Bennet's Themes from a Rainy Decade and Code Red Cloud Nine). And I am really disappointed that there is not another solution(like: forbid tripods, tape off the red lights of the camera and other things that can be seen on stage). Holding a little camera isn't a problem, not more than holding a fotocamera or mobile telephone.

A real true fan for 30 years feels sad about it!

I agree with the only problem ingrid
It is the photographer or cameraman who takes
Too much space, stands out.
But the camera portable personal (I remember
Betting bercy 92) is when even something else!
I am a fan of knopfler mark since 1985, I possede
All dvds bootlegs, and this is a great fiertee
I wish that the ban does not do its
For the fans who are discreet.

Mark did give permission to his fans to film, record etc. but when too many did follow that rule he stops it now. I cannot follow that random logic, but it seems that he is annoyed about his own fans.

Let's have some new Mark Knopfler DVDs over the next couple of years, please, Paul Crockford Management! Every concert is different, so there is plenty of material to choose from.  I would also like to see some variety in the merchandise you are selling at the venues.  It would be good to have a photo album of the 2008 tour, for example.  The t-shirts are good, but why are they mostly round-necked?! And why couldn't the TLWNF long-sleeve t-shirt have some tour info on the back?  Then it would have been perfect....

We attended the Amsterdam concerts.  The first night we were on the ground floor, where it was standing only.  It was difficult to see anyway, but when people were recording it was worse.  The second night, thanks to the advice of some really charming people, Pim & Jill, we made for the balcony where the view and sound were excellent. It was even more noticeable though that many were recording. It gets to be too much when people stop your enjoyment.

We are looking forward to seeing Mark and the band several times on this tour.  If you haven't already bought a ticket, grab one while you can.  He is such a wonderful, accomplished guitarist! Must also note that the band is excellent this time, too. We love it best of all when Mark gets 'into the zone' on songs like Sultans of Swing; his playing is phenomenal and we never want it to end.

DON'T MISS IT!

I must just agree with Ingrid. I think that little cameras are
not annoying...really annoying are just these people talking and shouting during the concert...and WHAT MORE - for every real fan EVERY BOOTLEG DVD (and mainly multicam) OR CD IS A REAL TREASURE. I am sad too that there will be less bootlegs...from Shangri-La tour there are many bootlegs available - and now the tour is even better (not only for me I think) and...no bootlegs?? Or almost no bootlegs? Too sad...

Now I just hope that there will be recorded official DVD on this tour.

Whilst i agree that people with tripods may be annoying, why MR CROCKFORD are there not more DVD's of Marks great work produced?
Surely the role of management is to promote Marks work. im sure if a few dvd's were made of marks new tour, even if they were availiable for download for nominal amount people woild be willing to purchase them!!

You cannot blame people for wanting to video his concerts.

p.s. i saw mark in Rotterdam and it was FANTASTIC!!

I really hope that, as we are not allowed to film anymore, there will be an official DVD made of this wonderful tour which is probably the best we have seen for years.  The lighting is amazing too and it would be a real shame not to have it all recorded, especially for those who are not able to get to a show.  Mr Crockford, are you going to let this chance pass by?  So far we haven't had an official solo DVD of Mark and his wonderful band.  Mark's work needs promoting more not less!

The only problem with the statement is when does a SLR camera become professional------ its hard to tell one from the other.I have 2 cameras one professional and one not but you would need to be a expert to tell the different.
