European concerts on USB

Friday - 18th June 2010

There's just over one month left on Mark's Get Lucky world tour, and there's now a way to relive the shows, whether or not you got a chance to attend: A live MP3 recording of Mark's European shows.

simfy live has been recording these dates in high quality audio and is now offering them on a Mark Knopfler USB flash drive (1 GB memory, MP3s in 320 kbps), available for purchase at the venue or online, or as a digital download. You can find a full list and audio clips of all the available concert recordings at simfylive.com.

The title should be changed: "European Concerts on USB for non-USA customers only!".  Its not explained until checkout, but the site will not permit the purchase of any of these shows if you're from the USA.  Just as in the past, team Knopfler shows their limited expertise in the world of digital distribution of recorded music.

The 2006 tour had that awful PassAlong service (or some such name) that had a lousy download procedure, incomplete shows, and forced their player to be installed in order to hear the tracks.  The 2008 tour was absent of any shows being via download.  Now this, with limited availability in a compromised format at quite high prices.

I give Mark and his management high marks for the professionalism of the shows, but failing grades in anything having to do with keeping the fan base fed on digital downloads of those shows.  You want to see it done right?  Head on over to Govt Mule's website.  Every show is available for direct download via Mule Tracks, both in MP3 and uncompressed FLAC, with the FLAC versions only $14.95.  Team Knopfler should pay attention if they want to provide their fans with services commensurate with the rest of MK's experience.

I would really love to be able to make a purchase of one or more of these shows.  I'd like to respectfully request an update as to the status of whether or not these shows will be available for purchase in countries (USA, Canada (I think)) that are currently prohibited from purchasing as of now.

I appreciate the effort and thank you for having the concerts available.  I hope they can be purchased by everyone soon.

I live in Philadelphia (USA) and my wife and went Sailing from Philadelphia (to London) to see the concert at the Royal Albert Hall on May 30.  I am very disappointed that I am not able to purchase the MP3 recording of this concert, but the message on the simfylive web site states "Sorry but this concert cannot be purchased in your country".  I also would like to request that the MarkKnopfler.com team do everything they can to make these concerts available for purchase outside of Europe.

Slighted again.  First no shows in the southeast of the US and now I can't even buy a recording...

If he wasn't so darn good I would just stop paying attention.

What a disappointment.  Who offers concerts for sale and then doesn't make them available for the biggest market in the world?

At the very least, the mk.com people owe it to us to explain what's going on here.  What are we dealing with here?  Is it some ridiculous record company legal mumbo jumbo that will never change?  Is it an oversight that will be corrected soon?

Anyone who would gladly pay $30+ for a concert recording with very little explanation of what you get is clearly a very loyal MK fan (like me).  Please don't leave your most loyal fans frustrated and confused.

P.S.  I'm with Jensen66:  Please don't forget the SE United States next time you come 'round.

Thanks,

Dave

MK, I was at the 2nd June concert - and one of the best concerts I've ever attended, you were simply stunning, and of course being handed a leaflet stating I could order at simfylive, woohoooo - brilliant,,,

However - I've since been told that there's legal reasons that they can't release ALL the nights... and they are in talks with RAH to release them - I'm actually wanting to buy a few copies, one for a gift and one for me as a keepsake... it was a truly stunning night - so admin/moderators/mk IF you read this - let us know what's going on...
PLEASE...

Give me a break, You fans in Europe and the UK really should not complain that a particulr show in your hometown or the actual show you attended is not available for purhase. We fans in the United States and North America can't even buy a single show!...Just pick a show and buy it and be happy you can get one or two or three...Besides, set lists are almost exactly the same for every single night anyway. With the exception of the two or three new songs from Get Lucky the set list nearly identical to the KGC Tour in 2008.

I don't have a problem with the price so much as the fact I can't even buy a show. I have attended every show in the last several years in the southwest United States, and I can't but an MP3? Wow!

These USB's would be alot cheaper if the biggest market in the world would have access-USA and Canada.  I saw many shows in the US several months ago and they were excellent.  However that being said I would love to enjoy the European shows but with this lack of business sense I won't be able to.  Mark the fans would love it and your accountant would love it too if you made these and other shows available to the people on the North American continent.  Increase your fan base and bank account-please just DO IT.  Thanks

I agree with all the above comments...These shows should be released in North America.

I live in the US but when I found out about these MP3s I was in France. Thus, when I was looking at the shows online, it appeared to me that I would be able to buy one. I resolved to do this immediately when I returned to the States, only to find out that I had lost my chance: the shows could not be bought in the US. MK & management got my hopes up only to screw me over in a very cruel and disappointing manner.

I have very high regards for MK and I'm sure these recordings are excellent. Don't make me think less of either because the recordings aren't available in my continent. Remedy this!

I am really sorry, but unfortunately I won't be doing this anymore as one or 2 people abused my kindness. At the end of the day I was just trying to share Mark Knopfler's great work with those of you who weren't lucky enough to have access to these recordings.
