Saturday - 30th January 2010

Warner Brothers have hit the ground running in 2010 with a vinyl reissue campaign featuring Dire Straits. Each Dire Straits album has been lovingly re-mastered from the original analog master tapes at Bernie Grundman Mastering, in Hollywood California and pressed on 180 gram European vinyl, at Furnace MFG, Pallas. I just saw the vinyl, new releases program, and i envy the newcomers on the DS sound.i already have 3 records from past high quality pressings and it's a pleasure to listen.
Eventhough i am thrilled by all the attention Dire straits get, via the reissue of their albums on high quality vinyl, i am not sure that these releases will please any of their older fans, since we already own all of their back catalogue, several times, in various formats and qualities. I truly support MK's decision not to put any "extra" tracks, on the reissues, and since he is still recording frequently, we've got new music all the time.
But it is a shame, at a digital age, where finding missing tracks and out takes is as easy as turning your radio on, not to have an official, exclusive, release of studio tracks that didn't make it on record. This way we'll be able to hear history on the making, no real fan will be forced to buy it along with the original album, and the sound will do justice to the recordings. And mind you, there are several.
But this is only a wish, since as i've already mentioned, i admire and support MK's decision not to alter the perspective of the past by adding "extra" tracks on the re-isseus, and at the same time forcing his fans to spent money to buy half new things, and the old ones once more.

vgonis spoke eloquently. Too many artists try to squeeze the extra buck from fans they KNOW will opt to buy something they already own
just to have access to something (an extra track) that M.K. thought was less than worthy of releasing in the first go round. I too admire this artist for his approach. If M.K. wants to release an ENTIRE disc of UNRELEASED material from the periods associated with
the first four albums, I will be first in line to pony up the $.

i already have all the Dire Straits original vinyls from the first album to the "on every street" LP and almost everything by Mark's music , I also have all the theme musics and his solos albums, and I  have very rare records of the beginning of the 80s which come from  American radios and which were never opened to be listened to.  I think i am very lucky to have all  these Treasures but it was long and difficult to gather  them !

i'm happy for the young fans they can now have them on vinyls with the original sound !
