Jesca Hoop

Monday - 30th June 2008

KGRL's "Flower-powered Artist" of April 2008, Jesca Hoop, has joined the Kill To Get Crimson tour as Mark's supporting act for all North American dates.

Hoop's major label debut, Kismet, has been described as "seductive, fun and entirely mesmerizing". Tom Waits helped kick-start the singer-songwriter's career after hearing an early version of 'Seed of Wonder'. The demo found its way into the hands of Nic Harcourt of KCRW, where it became the most requested song in the station's history. For a sample of Jesca's music, visit her MySpace page.

I heard her in Toronto and Syracuse and could not understand a word she said and did not appreciate her lecturing the pay people. Get a life.

Unfortunately, the Central Park crowd was rather rude (inattentive) to her... but I thought she was lovely. I felt her songwriting was reminiscent of Joni Mitchell - intriguing lyrics, simple, haunting melodies. Beautiful choice for a supporting act, and a courageous young woman to cheerfully persevere even when few members of the audience are appreciative. I can't imagine how difficult it must be to open for the likes of Mark Knopfler, and I thought she handled it admirably.

Saw her in Charlotte.  No question that she's a unique artist, which I like.  All acoustic, which was great for the few songs that she sang.  Put a band behind her and I think she will be even better.  Definitely difficult to understand, but check out her CD (w/ lyrics).  Not bad.  Don't forget it's her first real CD, first tour.
