Directed by Rob Reiner, the film tells the story of a young girl, Buttercup, and the love of her life, a farm boy named Wesley. After Wesley leaves the farm to seek his fortune so the two can be wed, Buttercup receives word that his ship has been attacked at sea and he is presumed dead. Buttercup is forced to become engaged to Prince Humperdinck, heir to the throne of Florin, and a heartbroken Buttercup accepts her fate. Wesley, who is still very much alive, joins together with a rag tag team of characters in an attempt to save her from the scheming prince.
"The Princess Bride" is currently #50 on Bravo's "100 Funniest Movies" list and is consistently placed on IMDB's Top 250 list. The score for the film was written and recorded by Mark Knopfler during a hiatus after touring Dire Straits' most successful release, "Brothers in Arms" in 1985-86. Mark Knopfler was the only person Rob Reiner felt could create a soundtrack to capture the film's quirky yet romantic nature.
